A week ago, Peggy, our smART Cookie hostess for Tea Party Challenge #8, prompted us to make any card that places the focal image inside an oval.
Since Peggy doesn't have a blog of her own, I'll start by featuring her card, and after that, present mine...
Peggy's oval masterpiece is in a monochromatic plus black & white color scheme combined with lots of layering.
The clear embossed focal image from BFL-02 Purpose pretty near fills her large, centered oval, and was then framed by a larger, scalloped oval (from a Nestabilities die). Additionally, the sentiment from Little Say has been stamped on a small, layered, oval tag. I guess you could say Peggy definitely met the "oval" requirement.
Beyond the ovals, Peggy reused the focal image to create a partial background (also clear embossed) along the lower portion of the card... Don't you think the effect of light on dark, then dark on light is really cool?!? I do.
The gingham ribbon is a dead ringer of a color match for the lighter shade of teal, and really ties everything together. (~hee hee)
Inside the card is a smaller, layered, rectangular panel - light teal base stamped and embossed like the outside background, then a black layer, and finally a white "text box" stamped in black with "Wishing you a beautiful day!" (from HSD-Hummer). Through and through it's a gorgeous card!
So what did Yours Truly do with Peggy's challenge?
Well, let me start off by saying that I had already received Peggy's card before starting mine, so that altered things a bit... I definitely didn't want to copy anything, so no florals... no scallops...no gingham, etc. Hmmmm...
In the end I discovered my main color choice was somewhat similar, but by the time realized it, I was already mid-project and happy with what I was doing, so opted to keep going... The color connection must have been subliminal!
That said, here's my card:
Stamps: ABC-Bundle Up, WD-192 Winter Days, WD-189 Avalanche (all shown on the same catty page -- to view click HERE) .
Base: Dark teal stock by Bazzill
Window Panel: Smooth, turquoise stock. Cut & embossed Nestabilities oval. Subtle snowflakes background stamped in Memories Turquoise. Saying stamped in Versafine Onyx Black. Panel raised from card base using two layers of chipboard.
Snowman Panel: Watercolor paper. Image stamped in black and clear embossed. Masked. Sponged with Memories Turquoise and Aqua inks. Some snowflakes stamped and embossed in clear, and some stamped in Brilliance Moonlight White. Image unmasked and colored with markers. Earmuffs, nose, and heart all stamped a second time, colored, cut out, and raised using single layer of chipboard. Panel adhered to card base. Dazzle Dust applied for snow. Dimensional glaze applied to carrot nose.
Other: Ribbon - white, and colored turquoise & teal with permanent markers. Layered snowflake punches (Lg.- Carl, Med. & Sm. Unknown) , and embellished with rhinestone centers, and Dazzle Dust.
I enjoyed making this card very much, and with all the "winter" Maine is seeing right now, it's a good reminder for me on how to stay warm.
